Swimming Lessons For Beginners - How to Get Started

This article is about swimming lessons for beginners but let’s talk about swimming and water. You love the water; you are smitten by how it flows over you and gives you a feeling of light weightedness. You enjoy diving down in the pool and feeling the cool water rush all over your body. You see the sun in its distorted form, breaking the water’s surface and you are amused. Most of us love to be near water; after all we were formed in it, swimming around in our mother’s womb for nine months under water. It is cooling, refreshing and an activity that is associated with fond memories from childhood to adulthood.

When you are a child, it reminds you of a time when you were happy; in the coolness of the water and the warmth of your protective parents as they held you close and watched over you. As you grow, it is a time of bonding with your siblings and as you get into your teens, it can be moments of friendship and moments of excitement as well as love. As you grow older, you see it as a solace and an activity you can partake it with your own kids. Swimming is freedom; it is man’s answer to our limitations to join the birds in the sky. As mammals, we should all enjoy such freedom, such expression in an environment that is tactile as it is exciting. We often look across the beach and see those frolicking in the sea waters with a smile on their faces. Laughter is in the air.

You want to join in this lark. Whether you are a child or an adult, there is no set time for those who would want to learn how to swim. There is nothing to be ashamed of and it is never too late to start. Reading this article is the first step you have taken in your journey to start swimming lessons for beginners and getting started is quite simple. Depending on your age you need to get yourself on a short research programme that is finding out the classes suitable for your age. Some swimming classes offer mixed classes, meaning people of all ages or within general age ranges are put together to learn how to swim but I would always advise that you get some focused help. It also is great if you can join a swimming class that has the same age group because it allows you to make friends faster.

Having people who can connect at a class like this makes it easier for you to absorb the lessons. It’s like going back to school again and you wont be so embarrassed and restricted if you had your peers with you. There are many swimming schools that also advertise their services online so that is a good route for you to take but make sure that the instructors are well qualified and that the school has been assessed by the usual authorities when it comes to this matter. Get started with swimming lessons for beginners and remember, it is never too late.

Adult Swimming Lessons - Never Too Late to Start

Whoever says that they are too old and too big to start adult swimming lessons obviously have no idea what they are talking about. It usually boils down to shame, an unbelief that at such an age, they do not know how to swim - something toddlers do at the pool, something 6 year olds do at the beach, something probably one of their younger relatives, or even their child is doing way better then they are. While they won’t admit it, it is a question of pride as they think that the sight of a fully grown adult floundering at the shallow end of the pool is about as dignified as being caught in someone else’s lingerie cabinet. But I am here to say that it is never too late to start and adults should set aside their pride for an activity that has so many benefits. Why is it too late to start? It isn’t. Disabled people are swimming. Mentally under developed individuals are swimming.

And you who have the limbs of a healthy human individual won’t start? It’s time to re assess your mental state and understand that you are going through like with an added disadvantage. You can’t swim means if you have kids, you can’t join them in one of the best bonding activities there is. While it is understandable that at an advanced age, some of us can’t keep up with our energetic bunnies of children in running and kicking a ball around, but swimming is one of the sports that therapist say is easier to adapt to. The same logic also comes into play when we are talking about keeping fit as we get older. As joints get eroded and age catches up on us, most of us are limited to what we can do to keep fit.

While issues like lifting weights and running are not out of the question, physical therapists are dubious about the positive effects of these activities and more like them, because how hard they are on the joints when we are young gets multiplied a couple of times. Pain and prolonged aches are a common feature, just as it is harder for older people to repair their muscles after a relatively intense workout session. Swimming is the middle ground, the solution to most of our problems. It keeps us lean because it is an excellent calorie burner, it keeps the muscles active as it is works the upper and lower body with equal intensity and it works out the most important muscle of all - the heart, which ensures that passages are not blocked and our cardio vascular system remains healthier than most who are inert and do not exercise on a daily or even bi daily basis.

So as you can see, there are so many benefits to adult swimming lessons and I have seen geriatrics taking swimming lessons on recommendations of their doctors. It is never too late to start and if that is stopping you from signing up, then think again and do yourself a favour.
